Tips Without the Venmo Dance: QR Codes for Barbers, Stylists, DJs and Buskers

12 mins read

Cash tips are disappearing, and asking "what's your Venmo?" while the next client waits is awkward for everyone. A QR code that opens your gomy•bio page fixes it: the client scans, taps a gift, pays by card, and gets your booking link and socials in the same place.

Why a bio page beats a payment-app handle

  • No app, no account. Clients pay by card on your page. They do not need to download anything or follow you first.
  • It sells your next appointment. The same page has your booking link, your location, your prices and your work.
  • It thanks them back. Attach a reward: an aftercare guide, a styling tutorial, a returning-client perk.
  • You see what works. Scans and clicks are counted, so you know which spot earns.

Step 1: Set up the page

Create your page, add your booking link and socials, and add a Gift Shop block with three gifts. For in-person work, keep it simple: a Takeaway Cup at $5, Scissor at $10 and Crown at $20, each with a one-line description such as "Great cut, thank you". The full setup guide is here.

Step 2: Make the QR code

Use the QR code generator and point it at your bio page. Free QR codes on gomy•bio never expire and have no scan cap, so a printed code keeps working for as long as the page exists. Choose a dynamic code if you might ever want to change where it points without reprinting it. Paid plans add your logo and a frame with a short call to action.

Step 3: Put it where the moment happens

  • Barbers and stylists: the corner of the mirror, at eye level when the cape comes off.
  • Nail techs and tattoo artists: on the table, next to where the card reader would be.
  • DJs: on the booth, and on screen between sets if there is one.
  • Buskers and street performers: on the case or a small stand, printed large enough to scan from two metres.
  • Trainers and instructors: on the gym bag tag or the studio door.
  • Baristas and service staff: where allowed, on a small card by the register.

Step 4: Print it so it scans

  • At least 3 cm (just over an inch) wide for close range; scale up for distance.
  • Dark code on a light background, with a clear white border around it.
  • Six words above it: "Scan to send a thank-you gift".
  • Laminate it. Mirrors get sprayed, and cases get rained on.

Step 5: Say it once, out loud

"If you loved it, you can scan this to leave a tip, and it has my booking link too." One sentence at the end of the appointment, not a speech.

How the money reaches you

We keep 20% of each gift, with card processing included, so you receive 80%. With Stripe connected, gifts settle in your own Stripe account and pay out to your bank on Stripe's schedule. Without Stripe, your share builds up in your wallet and you withdraw it to PayPal once it reaches the minimum.

Frequently asked questions

Can clients tip me with a QR code without downloading an app?

Yes. Scanning opens your gomy•bio page in the phone's browser. They choose a gift, pay by card and are done, with no app and no account.

Will my QR code stop working?

No. Free QR codes on gomy•bio never expire and have no scan cap. If you use a dynamic code, you can also change where it points later without reprinting.

What do I put on the page besides tips?

Your booking link, prices, location, opening hours, socials and a few photos of your work. The tip is the thank-you; the booking link is the next appointment.
