Stripe asks for the details any regulated payment processor must collect: who you are, where you live, and the bank account to pay. You enter it on Stripe's own form — we never see it.
What Stripe asks for
- Your nameAs it appears on official documents
- Your addressAnd your date of birth
- Bank detailsWhere payouts should land
- Proof of identityOften a photo of an ID document
Why so much?
Anyone moving money on someone else's behalf is legally required to verify who is receiving it. These rules exist to stop fraud and money laundering, and they apply to every payment processor — the requirement is not specific to us or to Stripe.
Who sees what
- Stripe sees your identity details They are entered directly into Stripe's form, inside their systems.
- We see none of it Not your bank account, not your ID, not your date of birth. We hold only an account reference and whether you are cleared to be paid.
- You see your buyers' emails So you can deliver what was bought. Card numbers are never shown to you, or to us.
How to spot a fakeWe will never ask for your bank details, card numbers, ID documents or password over email or in a support ticket. Real requests happen only inside Stripe's own form, which you reach from Account menu › Payouts.
